WIPO China: WIPO Sparks Collaboration for Advancing Copyright Collective Management in China

2024年2月23日,世界知識產(chǎn)權(quán)組織在北京舉辦座談會,為中國著作權(quán)集體管理的發(fā)展提供了契機(jī)。自2021年首次舉辦以來,該會議已成為年度活動,為中國的著作權(quán)集體管理組織與產(chǎn)權(quán)組織之間的深入交流提供了平臺,充分展現(xiàn)了產(chǎn)權(quán)組織在著作權(quán)管理領(lǐng)域的國際協(xié)作與創(chuàng)新承諾。
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) roundtable, held on February 23, 2024, in Beijing, offered an opportunity for the exploration and advancement of copyright collective management within China. This event, which has been an annual cornerstone since its inception in 2021, facilitated deep and meaningful exchanges between Chinese Copyright Collective Management Organizations (CMOs) and WIPO, reflecting a strong commitment to international collaboration and innovation in the field of copyright management.

中國音樂著作權(quán)協(xié)會(音著協(xié))副主席兼總干事劉平;
中國音像著作權(quán)集體管理協(xié)會(音集協(xié))總干事周亞平;
中國文字著作權(quán)協(xié)會(文著協(xié))常務(wù)副會長兼總干事張洪波;
中國攝影著作權(quán)協(xié)會(攝著協(xié))副總干事王瑩;
中國電影著作權(quán)協(xié)會(影著協(xié))副秘書長史文霞。
Key representatives from several of China's leading copyright organizations participated in the roundtable, including:
- The Music Copyright Society of China (MCSC), represented by Vice Chairman and Director General Liu Ping,
- The China Audio-Video Copyright Association (CAVCA), with Director General Zhou Yaping,
- The China Written Works Copyright Society (CWWCS), represented by Executive Vice President and Director General Zhang Hongbo,
- The Images Copyright Society of China (ICSC), with Deputy Director General Wang Ying, and
- The China Film Copyright Association (CFCA), represented by Deputy Secretary-General Shi Wenxia.

Ms. Liu Hua, the Director of the WIPO Office in China, highlighted the CMOs’ achievements and the recognition from WIPO, particularly noting the exchange with WIPO Deputy Director-General Sylvie Forbin on the progress made and problems faced by China's collective copyright management organizations. She emphasized the importance of WIPO initiatives like the "CLIP" (Creators Learn Intellectual Property) platform, the Accessible Books Consortium (ABC), WIPO for Creators, and WIPO Alert, encouraging CMOs to actively engage with these programs to support creators' rights and navigate the challenges of digital transformation.

During the event, significant achievements were shared by the participating organizations, marking milestones in their financial and operational growth. Notably, CAVCA and MCSC reported substantial increases in revenue and distributions to rights holders, reflecting the effectiveness of their collective management efforts and the broader success of copyright management systems in China.

The participants expressed a collective desire for support from WIPO in accessing best practices and leveraging global initiatives to enhance their capabilities and ensure the protection of creators' rights in the digital age.
